INVERTER / WARRANTY COMPARISON

Solar inverter warranties compared without the jargon.

The simple rule: check the standard term, then ask whether extra years depend on registration, monitoring or an extension.

Australian manufacturer information checked 12 October 2026. Exact model, purchase date and installation date still matter.

Three things to check on an inverter quote

1 / STANDARD

What do you get automatically?

Separate the standard manufacturer warranty from a promotion, free registration extension or paid extension.

2 / ACTION

Do you need to register it?

If registration or an online monitoring account unlocks extra cover, make sure it is completed and that you receive the warranty certificate.

3 / CLAIM

Who pays for the replacement job?

Check whether approved labour, freight or site attendance is included. The replacement inverter itself is only part of the cost.

Enphase IQ825 years on current eligible IQ8 microinvertersEach panel has its own microinverter, so the warranty applies to the individual IQ8 units rather than one central inverter box.Use the warranty that matches the exact IQ8 model and activation date. Other Enphase components such as gateways, controllers and batteries have their own terms.

GoodWe5 or 10 years depending on exact model and current programMany current residential hybrid families are listed with ten-year cover, while other models or older products can use different terms.Do not write “GoodWe = 10 years” on a comparison sheet without the model number. SEMS registration, connectivity and promotional eligibility can matter for additional cover.

This table is deliberately not a ranking. A longer warranty can be valuable, but architecture, serviceability, monitoring, battery compatibility and the retailer's support still matter.

Why the headline number needs context

Enphase: a current IQ8 microinverter can carry a 25-year warranty, but a microinverter system is a different architecture from one central string or hybrid inverter. Do not compare the warranty number while ignoring the system design.

SolarEdge: current residential Home Hub inverters have a 12-year standard warranty and can be eligible for longer paid extensions. The standard term and optional extension should be written separately on your comparison.

Fronius, GoodWe and Solis: registration and current program conditions can change what the headline warranty means. Ask for the final warranty certificate or registration confirmation after commissioning.

Does the inverter warranty cover every part of the system?

No. A solar system can include the inverter, smart meter, communications hardware, optimiser, gateway, backup controller, battery and EV charger. These components can have different warranty periods even when they share one brand.

When an installer writes “10-year system warranty,” ask whether that means the manufacturer's inverter warranty, the installer's workmanship warranty, or a separate retailer promise. They are not automatically the same thing.

The easiest quote check

  • Write down the exact inverter model.
  • Ask: “How many years are standard without paying extra?”
  • Ask: “Do I need to register it or keep monitoring connected?”
  • Ask: “If it fails, who organises and pays for the electrician?”
  • Keep the invoice, serial number and final warranty certificate.
