Who operates this website?

Melbourne Solar Guide is a Melbourne-based information and enquiry website operated under the Melbourne Solar Guide business name by an independent sole trader. It is not a solar installer and it is not an independent comparison service covering every installer in the market.

If you submit a request through our optional online enquiry form, your request is stored in a restricted database and reviewed by the website operator. Where you expressly request installer follow-up, the information may be passed to an installation provider, Sunrun Solar, solely for that requested enquiry. We do not send automatic lead-notification emails.

You can instead email contact@melbournesolarguide.com.au for questions about this website, feedback or privacy matters. Email is a separate channel: messaging us does not automatically register an installation enquiry. We only pass an email to an installation provider if you specifically request and agree to that follow-up.

Our online privacy-request form is currently unavailable. For access, correction, deletion or privacy concerns, email contact@melbournesolarguide.com.au. Our registered business-name record ↗ also provides official operator information. Information you provide directly to a third-party installer is subject to that provider's own privacy arrangements.

Checking the business operator

You can look up the Melbourne Solar Guide business name holder through the ASIC business names register ↗. We use the registered trading identity for the public website without publishing the individual operator's name unnecessarily.

What information do you choose to share?

You can use our educational articles, system suggester and household builder without providing a name, email address or phone number. The system suggester asks for a postcode, not a street address. Entering it does not request contact. The household builder does not require an address. Calculator and household-builder entries are temporarily kept in your browser tab for navigation.

If you submit a contact request, the form asks for your first name, surname, Victorian postcode, email address, an optional phone number when email is preferred, what you want to discuss and which contact method you would prefer us to use first. You can optionally share where you are in your decision, a short message or a preferred time of day. We separately record your express request to be contacted and when it was submitted.

If you later request a system quote from the calculator/system suggester, the quote form asks for the installation address. A previously saved address may be prefilled if you supplied one during an earlier visit. It is not submitted to Melbourne Solar Guide's enquiry database or passed to an installation provider unless you submit that form and expressly request contact. We do not request electricity account numbers or sensitive personal information. You can separately choose to include a short, previewed summary of your calculator answers; that summary is not shared automatically.

If you specifically request a human switchboard review, you can optionally attach one switchboard photo to the contact request. The image stays on your device until you submit the form. It is stored in a private, non-public Supabase Storage bucket and linked to that enquiry for the requested review. Avoid including bills, account numbers, faces or unrelated personal information in the image. A photo review is informational and does not replace a licensed electrical inspection.

Why would we use it?

If you choose to submit an installation enquiry, we securely record your details for the specific solar or battery follow-up you requested and may make them available to the relevant installation provider for that purpose. We do not interpret that request as permission to send unrelated promotional messages. You can continue using the website without submitting any enquiry.

If you later choose to share more information directly with an installer, that provider's own privacy practices and any additional consent requests should be explained to you.

Who helps operate the website?

The website uses hosting services provided by Vercel, and our restricted enquiry database is hosted with Supabase. The submission process also uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help prevent automated spam. Technical information may be processed by these service providers and, depending on their services and arrangements, outside Australia. Our Supabase project is configured in the Sydney region; this does not mean every supporting service or log stays in Australia.

Like other hosted websites, web servers may process technical request data needed to operate and protect the service.

Emails sent to our public contact address are forwarded using ImprovMX to the website operator's Outlook inbox. Your email address, message and any information you include are handled by those email providers and may be processed outside Australia. This email route is separate from the restricted Supabase enquiry database. If we reply, our response may come from a different email address.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand overall website usage, such as page views, popular pages, referring websites, broad visitor location and device or browser type. Vercel describes its analytics as cookie-free and aggregated, rather than a tool for identifying individual visitors. We remove URL query parameters and fragments from analytics events. We also count clicks on contact links, successful enquiry submissions and selected outbound resource links using non-personal event labels. We do not send customer names, contact details, form answers or free-text inputs to analytics. Technical information may still be processed by Vercel outside Australia. The system suggester and Victorian electricity-distributor lookup use Google Places to provide address suggestions, and the optional rooftop designer uses Google Maps for address search and satellite-map display. Address text entered into these Google-powered controls is sent to Google so those features can work. Melbourne Solar Guide keeps the selected system-suggester address in the current browser tab for the calculator flow; it is not submitted as an enquiry unless you later request contact. For the distributor lookup, the selected address coordinate is checked against the Victorian Government's published electricity-distributor boundary layer; the lookup does not create an enquiry. The rooftop designer does not save its searched address or panel positions. Google may independently process usage information under its own terms and privacy policy. Google privacy policy ↗

We do not currently use advertising cookies or install additional advertising trackers. A separate review is needed before introducing any further tracking tools.

How are contact requests protected?

When enabled, the enquiry form uses encrypted connections, server-side input validation, anti-spam verification and restricted database access. Contact information is not placed in public calculator results. Optional switchboard photos are stored privately rather than at a public image URL. Enquiries and any attached review image are used to manage and respond to the specific request and are retained only for those purposes and any applicable legal obligations, subject to the operator's final retention policy.

If you need information about an enquiry or wish to request access, correction or deletion, use theprivacy-request information below. If the online form is available, we may contact you through your chosen reply method to verify your identity. If your information was shared with an installation provider, that provider may retain separate records under its own privacy practices.

Manage your personal information

Choose whether to request access, correction, deletion of an enquiry or raise a privacy concern. You do not need to create an account. We collect only what is needed to review your request and contact you privately. We will not automatically send your information to anyone or delete records without suitable verification and review.

Our online privacy-request form is not active. Email contact@melbournesolarguide.com.au to request access, correction or deletion or to raise a privacy concern. You can also find the operator through the ASIC business names register ↗. Please do not send identity documents or sensitive records through ordinary email. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

How do you raise a privacy concern?

When the privacy request form is active, you can submit a concern privately and choose how we respond. Before then, email the website contact address provided above. Identity checks may be needed before disclosing or changing existing records.

If you remain dissatisfied after raising your concern with us, you canseek guidance from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner ↗ about whether your complaint falls within its remit.
