Is this system architecture worth considering?

SHORT ANSWER

Solis is primarily an inverter platform in this comparison. Its Australian S6 energy-storage range includes low-voltage single-phase and high-voltage three-phase hybrids designed to operate with compatible third-party lithium batteries.

That makes the battery-matching document a core part of the quote. A Solis inverter can be technically capable of storage while a proposed battery remains unsuitable because its voltage, communication protocol or firmware pairing is not supported.

How is the system actually built?

The Australian S6-EH1P(3-6)K-L-AU is a single-phase low-voltage storage-inverter family with two MPPTs and a published sub-10 ms backup switching pathway. Solis also publishes higher-power single-phase storage products.

For three-phase homes, S6-EH3P products cover high-voltage battery architectures in several power bands. Current product pages explicitly reference compatibility with mainstream lithium batteries and provide separate battery-matching attachments.

SolisCloud provides monitoring. As with other inverter platforms, make sure the necessary meter/CT hardware is included if whole-home load and grid-flow data are important.

Compatibility, backup and future changes

Solis publishes battery-matching information because the manufacturer does not force every residential storage design into one Solis-branded battery. That can increase choice, but it also increases the importance of exact model/firmware matching.

Ask the installer to cite the compatibility document used for the battery on your quote. If the battery is later changed for stock reasons, the replacement should be checked again rather than treated as an equivalent box of kWh.

Backup switching speed is not the same as backup capability. Protected-load wiring, output power, battery discharge power and three-phase load behaviour still need to be designed.

Warranty, monitoring and support

Use Solis' Australian warranty/support documentation for the exact inverter model and obtain the separate battery warranty from the battery manufacturer. A multi-brand Solis storage system has at least two warranty relationships.

Solis publishes Australian after-sales contact details and local support information. Keep the SolisCloud owner account, inverter serial, battery matching document and firmware/commissioning records.

Where does this architecture fit well?

  • Buyers wanting inverter choice plus a separately selected compatible battery.
  • Single-phase homes suited to low-voltage battery architecture.
  • Three-phase homes suited to an S6-EH3P high-voltage design.
  • Installers/homeowners comfortable validating and supporting a multi-brand storage combination.

Another architecture can still be a better fit when the existing solar equipment is worth retaining, the preferred battery is incompatible, the backup requirement is simpler, or the extra ecosystem features do not justify their installed cost. Compare the system architectures ↗.

What should you check on the quote?

  1. Which exact S6 inverter and phase is specified?
  2. Is the battery low voltage or high voltage and on the current Solis matching list?
  3. What continuous battery charge/discharge power is available through the combination?
  4. What backup output and protected circuits are included?
  5. Which meter enables whole-home SolisCloud data?
  6. Who handles inverter versus battery warranty support?

Also confirm the exact model is currently approved for the proposed Australian/Victorian connection and that export-control or communications requirements are included where they apply. See the Victorian smart-inverter guide ↗.

Quick buyer questions

Does Solis work with third-party batteries?

Yes. Current Australian S6 storage product pages explicitly refer to compatibility with multiple lithium battery models and provide battery-matching documentation.

Does Solis have three-phase hybrid inverters?

Yes. Solis Australasia publishes S6-EH3P high-voltage energy-storage inverter families for three-phase residential systems.

Is a Solis battery included with a Solis hybrid inverter?

Not necessarily. The inverter and battery should be listed separately, and the quoted battery must be compatible with the exact Solis model.
