Starting points for Ringwood homeowners
The City of Maroondah identifies Ringwood in its municipality and publishes an Environmentally Sustainable Design resource with an illustrated local home example. That case study demonstrates design options but is not representative of all Ringwood roofs or budgets.
This guide is an introduction to the questions that might apply locally, not a statement that every property in Ringwood has the same roof or electricity requirements.

Recorded solar activity in postcode 3134
As at 31 August 2026, Clean Energy Regulator records show 3,742 solar installation events and 26.3 MW of recorded rated solar capacity in postcode 3134.
- Recorded installations
- 3,742 installation events
- Recorded capacity
- 26.3 MW
- Average recorded capacity
- 7.0 kW per installation event
- Older recorded cohort
- 31.0% from 2015 or earlier
- 2026 recorded installations
- 172 (provisional)
The CER counts certificate-backed installation events, including new systems, upgrades and stand-alone systems. It is not a count of unique homes. Postcode 3134 may also cover places beyond Ringwood, so these figures are postcode-level context rather than a statistic about every Ringwood property. The older-cohort share describes when events were recorded; it does not prove that the original equipment is still on a roof or needs replacement.
Check the building design before choosing the panel package
Maroondah's sustainable-design material describes ways building orientation, thermal comfort and efficient appliances interact with rooftop solar. If you are renovating, consider roof faces, insulation, window shading and panel access in the same planning conversation. Improving household efficiency may change what an appropriate solar or battery system looks like.
Questions worth asking
- Can the proposed layout work with the renovation's real roof geometry?
- Which demand-reduction upgrades are already planned or budgeted?
- Does the electricity estimate distinguish existing loads from planned changes?
Measure your roof's sunlight rather than assuming an eastern-suburb profile
Ringwood properties can differ substantially in aspect, nearby buildings, vegetation and roof geometry. Ask for a roof-specific model and, where shade is relevant, how it changes through the seasons. A nearby council case study is useful design inspiration but cannot stand in for your roof's own assessment.
Questions worth asking
- What actual shade or roof-access constraints were checked or modelled?
- How does the layout change if a shaded roof face is excluded?
- What confidence should we place in the proposed annual production estimate?
Distinguish efficiency investments from the optional battery purchase
A battery's financial value depends on enough eligible surplus solar, evening demand, round-trip losses and actual installed cost. Compare a solar-only and a solar-plus-storage scenario without counting hypothetical full daily battery cycles. Use Maroondah's sustainable-design resources for broader context and verify any battery incentive under current federal rules.
Questions worth asking
- How much unused daytime solar is available across the seasons?
- What changes if efficient heating reduces total consumption?
- Is the battery quote separate, with usable kWh, output kW and any federal discount shown?
Start with your electricity use.
