Starting points for Croydon homeowners
Croydon is in Maroondah. The council's published Solar Savers page explains access to technical guidance, rebate information and vetted suppliers, as well as energy-efficient heating and hot-water options. It is separate from Melbourne Solar Guide's disclosed commercial relationship with Sunrun Solar.
This guide is an introduction to the questions that might apply locally, not a statement that every property in Croydon has the same roof or electricity requirements.

Recorded solar activity in postcode 3136
As at 31 August 2026, Clean Energy Regulator records show 5,467 solar installation events and 32.2 MW of recorded rated solar capacity in postcode 3136.
- Recorded installations
- 5,467 installation events
- Recorded capacity
- 32.2 MW
- Average recorded capacity
- 5.9 kW per installation event
- Older recorded cohort
- 30.2% from 2015 or earlier

The CER counts certificate-backed installation events, including new systems, upgrades and stand-alone systems. It is not a count of unique homes. Postcode 3136 may also cover places beyond Croydon, so these figures are postcode-level context rather than a statistic about every Croydon property. The older-cohort share describes when events were recorded; it does not prove that the original equipment is still on a roof or needs replacement.
Use independent guidance to identify the right questions
Maroondah's Solar Savers program provides a local starting point for technical guidance and learning about available incentives. It does not remove the need to check your own roof and compare written proposals. We encourage homeowners to read council guidance and consider providers other than our preferred partner if that helps them make an informed decision.
Questions worth asking
- Which program conditions and suppliers are currently available?
- Have we compared proposals on equal equipment and incentive assumptions?
- Do the retailers clearly identify who installs and supports the system?
Work from actual usage rather than a package size
A household home during daylight hours can have a different solar-use pattern from one that imports most electricity in the evening, even with the same quarterly bill. Compare generation with your own half-hourly or interval data where available. Any suggested battery capacity should be assessed against usable evening demand and realistic seasonal charging.
Questions worth asking
- Can our energy retailer provide interval usage records?
- When would we consume the proposed solar generation directly?
- What portion of battery capacity could actually be charged and used in winter?
Compare service and aftercare as closely as hardware
The written quote should name the exact panel, inverter and optional battery models and distinguish manufacturer, performance and installation workmanship warranty obligations. Check who handles faults and how you can contact that organisation later. Council supplier-vetting arrangements should be understood on their own terms, not treated as a universal warranty guarantee.
Questions worth asking
- Who will actually carry out the installation, and what credentials apply?
- Which warranties cover parts and labour, and who administers each one?
- What is excluded from the quoted installed price and future servicing?
Start with your electricity use.
