Starting points for Epping homeowners
Whittlesea's Home Energy Program explains assessments, reducing heating and cooling waste, and planning an all-electric home. Its separate Energy Smart Homes Grant page states that applications for the previously advertised grant have closed; check official program status rather than quoting expired assistance.
This guide is an introduction to the questions that might apply locally, not a statement that every property in Epping has the same roof or electricity requirements.

Recorded solar activity in postcode 3076
As at 31 August 2026, Clean Energy Regulator records show 4,494 solar installation events and 30.5 MW of recorded rated solar capacity in postcode 3076.
- Recorded installations
- 4,494 installation events
- Recorded capacity
- 30.5 MW
- Average recorded capacity
- 6.8 kW per installation event
- Older recorded cohort
- 35.2% from 2015 or earlier
- 2026 recorded installations
- 155 (provisional)
The CER counts certificate-backed installation events, including new systems, upgrades and stand-alone systems. It is not a count of unique homes. Postcode 3076 may also cover places beyond Epping, so these figures are postcode-level context rather than a statistic about every Epping property. The older-cohort share describes when events were recorded; it does not prove that the original equipment is still on a roof or needs replacement.
Use an energy assessment to identify the most useful changes
Whittlesea describes the value of reviewing insulation, draughts, appliance condition, bills and potential solar or battery options together. That doesn't mean a paid or free assessment is necessarily available immediately. Check access and choose which findings could materially alter the rooftop installation you are considering.
Questions worth asking
- What do our recent bills and appliance usage indicate?
- Could insulation or efficient heating reduce demand before a system is sized?
- Is the council's relevant assessment service accepting bookings now?
Plan future electric appliances with realistic timing
If gas appliances are to be replaced, calculate the intended electric hot-water, heating and cooking loads separately from today's usage. The council advises homeowners to stage the transition as equipment reaches the end of its life. If an EV is a possible later purchase, document the uncertainty rather than treating uncertain future charging as measured demand.
Questions worth asking
- Which appliance upgrades are definite within our budget?
- Which loads could operate during daylight solar hours?
- What assumptions should an installer revise after upgrades are completed?
Confirm whether a council program is open before adding discounts
Whittlesea's published Energy Smart Homes Grant had a specific 2025 application period and is shown as closed. Eligible residents may have access to other current programs or Solar Savers guidance, but a historic grant amount should never be inserted into a new quotation as an automatic deduction. Verify both federal battery and Victorian solar-panel incentives independently.
Questions worth asking
- Which published program is currently accepting applications?
- Does the retailer show each verified incentive on a separate line?
- Who is responsible for after-sales service under a council-supported supplier arrangement?
