Is this system architecture worth considering?
SAJ HS3 is an integrated residential energy-storage architecture rather than simply a battery cabinet. SAJ describes the platform as combining solar inverter, EV AC charger, battery PCS, battery pack, backup and energy management within one modular system.
That integration can reduce the number of separate boxes in a new installation, but the quote still needs to specify inverter power, storage capacity, backup scope and whether the EV-charging hardware shown in the platform is actually included.
How is the system actually built?
The current Australian HS3 page describes a 5 to 40 kWh storage range with integrated power conversion and backup. The final module count determines stored energy while the inverter model determines how much power the house and battery can exchange at once.
HS3 also advertises an integrated 7/11 kW AC EV charger pathway. Treat this as a distinct equipment item: if EV charging is part of the purchase decision, the quote should name the charger hardware and installed electrical capacity.
SAJ also publishes other residential storage and battery families, so a quote for ‘SAJ battery’ should not be assumed to mean HS3.
Product families worth knowing
| Product family | Role | Buyer check |
|---|---|---|
| HS3 Series | Integrated 6-in-1 residential ESS | Exact inverter power, 5-40 kWh storage configuration, backup and EV-charger inclusion. |
| HS5 | Residential storage platform | Exact inverter/battery combination and how it differs from HS3. |
| EK70 / EK90 | Battery families | Module quantity, supported inverter and current Oceania warranty document. |
| Elekeeper | Energy management | Owner access, tariff configuration and monitoring commissioning. |
Compatibility, backup and future changes
In an integrated HS3 design, compatibility is mainly about selecting the correct SAJ modules and accessories within the platform. For other SAJ battery families, the inverter/battery pairing remains a model-specific question.
Backup should be documented separately from normal grid-connected output. Ask which circuits operate off-grid and whether large loads are excluded.
If EV charging is expected, check the home's phase, supply capacity and simultaneous loads rather than assuming an integrated charger can always operate at its headline rating.

Warranty, monitoring and support
SAJ Australia publishes Oceania warranty documentation through its support centre for current residential storage and battery products. Warranty terms are model-specific, so use the exact HS3, HS5 or EK-series document supplied with the proposal.
Keep the serial numbers, owner Elekeeper account, commissioning documents and the equipment list showing which integrated functions were actually installed.
Where does this architecture fit well?
- New solar plus storage where a compact integrated architecture suits the project.
- Homes planning 5 to 40 kWh of storage within the supported HS3 range.
- Households considering integrated EV charging as part of the same electrical upgrade.
- Backup designs where the installer clearly separates battery energy from off-grid power capability.
Another architecture can still be a better fit when the existing solar equipment is worth retaining, the preferred battery is incompatible, the backup requirement is simpler, or the extra ecosystem features do not justify their installed cost. Compare the system architectures ↗.
What should you check on the quote?
- Is this HS3, HS5 or another SAJ storage platform?
- What inverter rating and battery-module quantity are included?
- How many usable kWh does the final system provide?
- What backup circuits and power are included?
- Is the 7/11 kW EV charger actually included in the quote?
- Which current Oceania warranty applies to each installed component?
Also confirm the exact model is currently approved for the proposed Australian/Victorian connection and that export-control or communications requirements are included where they apply. See the Victorian smart-inverter guide ↗.
Quick buyer questions
What does 6-in-1 mean on SAJ HS3?
SAJ describes HS3 as integrating solar inverter, EV AC charger, battery PCS, battery pack, backup and energy management functions within one platform.
How much battery capacity does HS3 support?
The current Australian HS3 product page describes a 5 to 40 kWh storage range. The exact module configuration should be shown on the quote.
Is the EV charger automatically included with every HS3 quote?
Do not assume so. The platform supports integrated EV charging, but the equipment schedule should state whether the charger hardware and electrical installation are included.
