Is this system architecture worth considering?

SHORT ANSWER

Growatt's Australian residential storage range is broad. Current products include APX high-voltage storage, ALP low-voltage batteries, battery-ready and hybrid inverters, plus MINA and MODA all-in-one ESS products.

That breadth means ‘Growatt battery’ is not a sufficient equipment description. The voltage architecture, inverter series, battery generation, module quantity and backup hardware should all be visible on the quote.

How is the system actually built?

APX is Growatt's high-voltage battery pathway for selected battery-ready and hybrid inverters. ALP is a low-voltage LFP platform and therefore belongs to a different inverter architecture.

MINA and MODA add an all-in-one alternative, combining storage and matched power electronics into a more integrated package. Compare that approach against separate inverter-and-battery components based on serviceability, expansion and the home's electrical design.

Some Growatt inverters are described as battery ready. Confirm whether adding storage later requires only battery hardware or also backup boxes, meters, firmware activation or additional electrical work.

Product families worth knowing

APX HV Battery AUHigh-voltage modular LFP storageExact APX generation, module count and supported inverter.
ALP LV BatteryLow-voltage LFP storage5 kWh modules, final stack size, compatibility and power expansion.

MODAThree-phase all-in-one ESS pathwayAC rating, storage capacity, phase arrangement and backup scope.

Compatibility, backup and future changes

Growatt publishes current Australian battery and inverter documentation. Use the exact APX or ALP compatibility statement rather than assuming both battery families can connect to the same inverter.

The current ALP 5.0L-E2 Australian page lists 5 to 50 kWh configurations and publishes a dedicated compatibility statement. That is the level of model-specific documentation worth asking for on any Growatt quote.

Backup functionality differs by inverter and accessories. Ask which backup box, meter or control hardware is included and what loads it is designed to supply.

Warranty, monitoring and support

Growatt Australia's warranty portal is model and serial-number specific and directs owners to the applicable warranty card. That is more useful than relying on one brand-wide warranty duration.

Ask for the warranty card covering the exact inverter and battery before installation and keep the serial numbers, owner monitoring account and commissioning records.

Where does this architecture fit well?

  • New solar and storage using a matched Growatt hybrid/APX or ALP pathway.
  • Homes comparing a more integrated MINA/MODA system with separate components.
  • Projects where low- versus high-voltage battery architecture is deliberately selected.
  • Battery-ready solar designs where the future hardware required is documented now.

Another architecture can still be a better fit when the existing solar equipment is worth retaining, the preferred battery is incompatible, the backup requirement is simpler, or the extra ecosystem features do not justify their installed cost. Compare the system architectures ↗.

What should you check on the quote?

  1. Is the battery APX high voltage or ALP low voltage?
  2. Which exact inverter and battery generation are quoted?
  3. How many usable kWh and how much battery power result?
  4. Is this a separate-component design or MINA/MODA all-in-one system?
  5. What backup box, meter and circuits are included?
  6. Which Australian warranty card applies to these serialised products?

Also confirm the exact model is currently approved for the proposed Australian/Victorian connection and that export-control or communications requirements are included where they apply. See the Victorian smart-inverter guide ↗.

Quick buyer questions

Are Growatt APX and ALP the same battery system?

No. APX is a high-voltage pathway and ALP is low voltage. They belong to different inverter and electrical architectures.

What does battery ready mean on a Growatt inverter?

It means the inverter supports a future storage pathway, but you should still ask what battery, backup, metering and installation hardware will be required later.

How do I check the Growatt warranty?

Growatt Australia provides model/serial-specific warranty lookup and warranty-card documentation. Ask for the exact card covering the equipment on your quote.
